To learn more about the rich history of the Greater Greer area, a visit to the Greer Heritage Museum on Trade Street is a must. The museum collects, preserves, and exhibits materials, records and artifacts that relate to the heritage and history of the area.
Because the railroad was important to the founding and economic growth of Greer, the museum features a number of displays on the industry. Another important part of Greer -- the arts -- is frequently represented by works by students and local artists.
Greer's history includes being part of the Trail of Tears, the trail taken by the Cherokee Nation when they were transported west as a result of treaties. The S.C. Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association documents the sites and locations in Greer that played a role in history. The Association is sponsored by The Cherokees of South Carolina. The City of Greer will be working with the Greer Heritage Museum to provide a thorough and interactive history section on this web site. It will include not only a look at Greer's treasured past, but also news about exhibits and events taking place at the museum.
