The main objective in incidents that involve hazardous materials is to recognize the hazards that exist and remove the general public from any potential contact.  The City Of Greer Fire Department assists local Hazardous Materials Teams with incidents occurring on roadways and in industry facilities. Sometimes it may mean evacuating people and protecting the environment from exposure to hazardous materials.

During a hazardous material emergency, the City of Greer Fire Department has three priorities: life safety, incident stabilization and property conservation. A hazardous material emergency could be as small as a gas leak or could be as large as a chemical leak or spill at a local industry. All or our firefighters are trained to handle all types of hazardous material calls.  If we need specialized equipment the city will call a special Hazardous Materials Team from Greenville County to assist in the incident.
