The Department of Building and development standards exists to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the general public through the equal enforcement of all applicable codes and ordinancesof the City of Greer for both the construction industry, mobile home industry, and engineering practices.

The Department of Building and Development Standards serves three functions for the City of Greer.  These functions fall under the Director of Building and Development Standards and include planning and zoning; building and codes; and engineering.

 

The Building and Development Standards Department, as well as Planning and Zoning, are located across the street from City Hall at 111 S. Main St.  Here you will find everything you need to know about commercial and residential building codes and permitting, zoning issues, and land development.  The City of Greer’s planning commission and zoning board of appeals also operate out of the department.  Greer's Nuisance Abatement office is located in the department.  To contact the Building and Development Standards Department with a question or comment, click here, or dial (864)848-2175.

The Manager of Engineering serves as the City Engineer, a registered Professional Engineering position, and oversees all activities of the Engineering and Storm Water Divisions.  The major duties include coordination of city construction projects (except park construction); review of site development plans for residential and commercial projects; inspection of street construction in new subdivisions; and advising the Storm Water staff in the development and application of the city's storm water program.  The position is assisted by the Assistant Engineer/Storm Water Director and the Storm Water Inspector.
