Author Judy Blume has built a loyal following among children and young adults with her numerous books.  That fan club grew even larger when her 1972 release “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing” was adapted for the stage, a production the Greer Children’s Theatre will present June 6-8 and June 13-15 at the J. Harley Bonds Career Center.

Blume’s timeless story about the struggles of growing up with a pesky little brother, fourth grade friends, and a comedic family translates well to the stage.  Following the adventures and misadventures of 10-year-old Peter, who lives with his parents and younger brother, Fudge, in New York City. A quiet, sensible boy who is serious about everything he does, Peter is constantly frustrated by Fudge, who is the exact opposite of Peter and attracts trouble at every turn.

Despite the humorous (but frustrating) escapades with Fudge, Peter finally is able to overcome his anger and still accept Fudge as an inquisitive toddler.

The curtain rises on Friday and Saturday performances at 7 p.m.  Sunday’s performances are 3 p.m. matinees. Tickets are $11 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and $3 for children ages 3-under.
