"Greer Idol" auditions to begin April 22
Been loosening up those vocal chords and singing in the shower?
If so, you may be ready to audition for the 2008 Greer Idol competition to be held in conjunction with the city's Tunes on Trade summer concert series.
Andrea Payment, director of the Greer Cultural Arts Council, said positive feedback from the inaugural year of Greer Idol, won by the Upstate’s own Jennifer Johnson, made the decision to bring back the competition an easy one.
“The audience response was overwhelming,” Payment said. “It really was difficult to believe how much everyone enjoyed it.”
The encore year begins on April 22 and April 29, when open auditions will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Events at the Davenport on Trade St. All participants must be 16 years of age as of April 1, 2008, and will be asked to sing a one-minute a cappella version of a song of their choice.
Those who make the cut will be awarded gold tickets to the semifinal round to be held on May 20, just one month before the first Tunes on Trade concert. The top 12 singers will be invited to participate in the final round, where three judges will determine the winner over the course of the summer concert series.
There is no cost to participate in the competition. For more information and for a registration form, visit www.greerculturalarts.com or contact Payment at 848-5383. Registration forms also may be completed on-site the night of auditions.
