Increased traffic enforcement planned
at high-collision areas in the city

The Greer Police Department has begun increasing traffic enforcement at areas identified by statistics as high-collision areas in the city.  The goal, according to department officials, is to increase traffic awareness instead of the number of traffic tickets.

"This educational tool is being used to make drivers more aware of their driving habits and to hopefully prevent violations and collisions," Cpl. Mixon Eldridge said, adding that advertising the locations on the city's website, Charter Cable Channel 15, and through local media outlets brings greater awareness to both high-collision areas and an increased police presence.

The first locations targeted for an increased awareness are the intersection of Wade Hampton Blvd. and S. Buncombe Rd. and the intersection of Wade Hampton Blvd. and Highway 14 (N. Main St.).

Drivers should be particularly aware of their speed, use of turn signals, attention to traffic lights, and adherence to seat belt laws.
