Renew Engine 2: Restoring a Piece of Greer's History

enginetwo

This 1941 Chevy Southern pumper truck was purchased new by the City of Greer and was one of the department's top vehicles for many years.

One of the truck's last major assignments was the fire that destroyed Davenport Junior High School in 1970. The city maintained ownership of the vehicle until Allen Cullum, grandson of Greer businessman B.A. Bennett purchased it for recreational use at his home in Texas.

Cullum offered the truck back to the city in 2011, an offer Fire Chief Chris Harvey took to Greer City Council in October.  Chief Harvey's desire was to restore the truck in time for the department's 100th anniversary in 2014.  Council unanimously approved accepting the piece of the city's history with the stipulation that no tax dollars be spent on the restoration project.

GFD accepted the challenge of seeking personal donations from local residents and businesses to restore Engine Two for use as a parade vehicle and a centerpiece for local events.  With your help, it will be possible to Renew Engine Two.
