Assistant City Administrator Mike Sell provides highly responsible administrative, analytical and professional assistance to the City Administrator in the preparation and administration of the City’s strategic plan and annual budget, monitoring expenditures, daily municipal operations, and collecting, researching, analyzing data, and report writing as requested.
The position is responsible for assisting in the development and formulation of policies and procedures on a variety of issues affecting the operational departments, as well as recommending the expansion and creation of services to improve efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
Mike joined the City of Greer as the Assistant Administrator in July of 2007 following 11 years of service as a Management Associate and the Local Government Analyst in the Governmental Services Department of the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments. He previously worked in the Office of Management and Budget with the City of Greenville and as a sales and management associate with Sears, Roebuck & Co.
He received his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg in 1989 and earned his graduate degree through the joint Clemson University and University of South Carolina Master of Public Administration program in 1997.
Mike’s areas of expertise focus on all aspects of local government administration including but not limited to South Carolina Home Rule, administrative management issues, alternative revenue sources, budgeting analysis, fiscal policy, business license administration, annexation, information technology, grants, personnel management and policy, planning and development, risk management, and strategic planning.
