Have you ever wondered about the inner workings of a police department? If so, you may be interested in enrolling in the spring session of the Citizens Police Academy being offered by the Greer Police Department.

The 10-week program is designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Greer Police Department.

Classes begin March 1 at the Greer Police Department located at 102 S. Main St., and will be held weekly from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All applicants must be over the age of 18 and pass a background check.

Topics included in the program include patrol procedures (including a ride along), dispatch, detention, community outreach, criminal investigation, gangs, animal control, and K-9 and taser demonstrations.

“We hope the graduates of the Citizens Police Academy become more aware and better informed about how the police department operates and will encourage friends, coworkers, and family members to join the Greer Police Department in this rewarding program,” Lt. Jim Holcombe said.
