Greer City Park

Greer City Park

301 East Poinsett Street
Greer, SC  29651

Part of the City of Greer's Municipal Complex that was completed in 2008, the 12-acre Greer City Park is located adjacent to Greer City Hall and offers numerous recreational opportunities in Historic Greer Station.

An arched entryway stands at the corner of E. Poinsett and Cannon Streets, leading to an open promenade with decorative benches and streetlights.  A short stroll leads to the majestic fountain  -- a centerpiece of the park for many who enjoy the fountain's waters dancing to music.  A smaller water feature with peaceful waterfalls faces comfortable bench swings perfect for enjoying an evening in the fresh air.

Extending beyond the fountain is an amphitheater and tiered seating for approximately 650 people.  In addition to impromptu performance by children visiting the park, the amphitheater hosts concerts, outdoor movies, and theatrical performances throughout the year.  Colorful flower beds around the fountain and amphitheater add to the natural beauty of the setting and large rocks used in landscaping remind visitors of the City of Greer's proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Large lawns separate the water features and amphitheater from streets and City Hall, not only providing a bit of seclusion for those areas but also meeting the request for more green space in the city's central business district.  Kites and flying discs are equally popular on the lawns as residents take advantage of the park.

Greer City Park's walking trails have become a popular attraction for exercise enthusiasts.  Walkers have the option of circling the entire park and mixing in mildly-challenging hills, adding the challenge of climbing the amphitheater steps to their routine, or simply choosing a fairly level route.  Paved and lighted walkways make any of the options safe and secure.

Children love the park's play center, a structure that permits climbing and sliding.  Mom and Dad enjoy the rubber ground cover in the play area that has saved many skinned knees.  Everyone can enjoy the adjacent large picnic shelter that provides ample shade from the summer sun or a dry place to rest while a stray summer rain shower passes by.

The shelter and playground enjoy a great view of the City Park Gazebo, which has been the scene of both weddings and concerts.  Extending into the water, the gazebo enjoys a peaceful setting most days as visitors settle into one of the park swings around the pond.  The facility can also become the place to be for great music and activities, however, as it hosts a fall concert series and fun activities for all ages during festivals.

Greer City Park's facilities may also be rented for special events such as weddings or company picnics.  Please visit the Events Center at Greer City Hall page for more information.

Beyond the City Park Gazebo at 204 Cannon Street is the Cannon Centre, which was constructed in 1936 as the Greer National Guard Armory and then served as a gymnasium for the Parks and Recreation Department until 2006.  Dedicated in July of 2012, the Cannon Centre has proven to be an integral part of the meeting and events facilities that comprise the Events Center at Greer City Hall.
