The Greer Police Department's Community Outreach Team is comprised of specialized officers who are responsible for implementing community-oriented policing and problem-solving strategies for the department.  These strategies are purpose driven and focused on specific issues that cause concern for area neighborhoods.

Community Policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies that support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime.

The Community Outreach Team is a section of the Administrative Division and is supervised by Sergeant Jeff Smith.  Sergeant Smith takes the lead in scheduling and promoting special events and operations.  The Team works closely with members of the community and with other Teams within the department such as; Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Traffic, K9, Vice and the Crime Analyst.

The Community Outreach Team duties consist of addressing community concerns from residents and businesses, working street level criminal and traffic enforcement, targeting prolific offenders, assisting in establishing neighborhood watch programs, attending community meetings and performing a variety of other functions.

The Community Outreach Team includes School Resource Officers Steve Anderson (Riverside High School), Joel Galli (Rivereside Middle School), Perry Bowens (Greer High School), and Ashley Wright (Greer Middle School).  These officers are highly trained in juvenile related matters and work closely with School Staff, Students, and Parents.  These officers also conduct the department's Youth Summer Camps.
