The Greer Police Department's Directed Patrol Unit is a multi-faceted unit whose primary goal is to conduct criminal interdiction, investigations, and arrests of those individuals responsible for the repeated criminal activity within the city.  The Directed Patrol Unit (DPU) is a three-officer unit headed by Sgt. Jeff Smith with the primary purpose is to provide a quick and targeted response to problem areas, situations, and persons within the City of Greer.  The officers may operate in an undercover capacity or in uniform depending upon the assignment.

These officers may provide saturation of a certain area or surveillance based upon certain crime trends.  Special projects are initiated by this unit which include:  prostitution stings, underage alcohol compliance checks, public safety checkpoints, etc..  Another viable asset of this unit is assisting the narcotics unit with investigations and the execution of search warrants.

The Directed Patrol Unit analyzes statistics and monitors crime to identify specific problem areas and then conducts  operations to target ongoing criminal activity.  DPU is able to target a specific area or problem, while patrol units continue to handle calls for service.

The Greer Police Department strongly embraces working with the community and continuously strives to provide quality police services.   Should you have any concerns please feel free to contact a DPU officer by calling  416-0115.  All calls will remain confidential.
