Police Chief

Due to retirement, the City of Greer is accepting applications for the position of Police Chief.  This is a Department Head level position that reports to the City Administrator.

Responsibilities: Plans, directs, implements, and supervises the programs and activities of the Police Department in order to protect citizens and maintain operating effectiveness and efficiency; Supervises department employees which involve such duties as instructing, assigning and reviewing work, maintaining standards, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, appraising employee performance, recommending promotions, discipline, termination and salary increases; Plans and develops programs for the department; researches problems and develops solutions; reviews daily activity reports; develops and presents training programs in areas of specialty and for officers; teaches various programs and courses; monitors administrative processes. Oversees maintenance and condition of buildings; ensures good condition of jail facilities and prisoners; Performs various public relations duties in order to maintain a good image of the department within the City including answering questions and providing information in need, speaking at public meetings and events, representing the department at public functions and speaking engagements, developing good will and good morale among employees, providing classes for citizens, supervising community police programs, etc.; Works on an on-call basis, seven days a week and twenty-four hours per day.

Job Requirements:  Requires a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or other relevant field, with ten (10) years of experience in law enforcement, some which has been at the management level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Master’s degree and Graduate of FBI National Academy, preferred.  Must have required Law Enforcement certification from the Criminal Justice Academy. Must possess a valid state issued driver's license.  Must become resident in the Greater Greer area within six (6) months of hire.

Hours:  Monday – Friday; 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, typical, and additional hours based on circumstances and events.  Exempt employment status.

Salary:  Grade 206 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $74,115 year.

Uniform Patrol Officer I


Application Deadline: October 7, 2016

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Uniform Patrol Officer I in the Police Department.  

Responsibilities: Responding to various types of police calls, patrolling assigned areas, making arrests, handling community policing, working as jailor as needed, appearing in municipal court, general sessions, and family court as necessary, preparing reports and records, etc. 

Job requirements: High School diploma or GED and at least 21 years of age.  Must be able to successfully complete (or be currently certified by) the S. C. Criminal Justice Academy; Must be able to work 12-hour shifts; Must have a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  12 hour shifts.

Salary:  Grade 109 – Entry salary $33,941

Events / Rentals Assistants (part-time)


Position will remain open until filled

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for Multiple Part-Time Events Assistants in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position will assist with the functions held at the City of Greer Events Center. 

Responsibilities:  Assists with the coordination of activities and events for the facility/park, which involves setting up, decorating and executing parties and events; assists in the preparation for the event to include renting facilities, ensuring cleanliness and that rules and regulations are followed by participants; involves repetitious lifting and moving of tables and chairs in set-up and take-down of event; Interacts with the public by providing facility/park tours, greeting visitors, providing directions; Provides information to the public regarding fees, availability and requirements for use; may assist with the coordination of the events calendar;  Maintains records and files on activities and events; Assists with Events Division inventory and related supplies and records.

Job requirements: High School diploma/GED. Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Hours:  Hours will vary depending upon schedule of events; primarily Thursday through Sunday and evenings; hours dependent on event schedules.

Salary: $11.87 hour
