Telecommunicators

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for four (4) Telecommunicators in the Fire and Police Departments.

Responsibilities: Answers 911 emergency and non-emergency telephone lines; dispatches calls to responding police and fire units; monitors alarms and other telecommunications equipment; operates SLED/NCIC computer in order to access information and prepares various reports and maintains communication logs.

Job requirements: High School diploma or GED.  Must be able to successfully complete the E911 training class and become certified by the National Crime Information Center, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) and Priority Police Dispatch within the first year of employment.  Must be able to successfully complete a two-week training class at the SC Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia.  Must be able to work 12 hour shifts.

Hours:  12 hours shifts: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM

Salary:  Grade 106 – Salary dependent on experience. Entry salary is $14.10 hour

Business License Inspector

Application Deadline: July 29, 2016

The City of Greer is seeking a Business License Inspector in the Administration Department.  This position performs clerical and administrative duties in City Hall under the supervision Director of Finance and Information Technology.

Responsibilities: Performs enforcement of the business license and local hospitality tax ordinances; Reviews local business licenses ensuring all licenses issued comply with City ordinances; Locates and licenses unlicensed businesses operating within City limits; conducts audits of business files and reviews businesses selected for audit; makes on-site inspections of new businesses in order to ensure all licensing procedures have been completed; Communicates with an assortment of professional persons in the course of daily routine activities including local business owners, building inspectors, contractors, attorneys, government officials, etc.; Enforces delinquent business license and hospitality tax accounts; works with the City's Code Enforcement Officer; works with the Public Safety Dispatch; Compiles letters for the mailing of renewal and delinquent applications; Determines which class a business should be categorized under using the North American Industrial Classification System and the City's Business License Ordinance; calculates the license fees for businesses based on the rate scale for their classification including declining rate scales;  Issues Municipal Summons for delinquent licenses or for operating without a license and appears in court on the City's behalf.

Job Requirements: Associates degree with a concentration in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred and one to two (1-2) years’ experience in accounting, public relations or general office work.  Must be able to deal effectively, courteously and professionally with the public in handling inquiries and communicating information.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; additional hours as scheduled.

Salary:  Grade 103 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $26,445

IT Systems Support

The City of Greer is seeking an IT Systems Support personnel in the Finance and IT Department.  This position performs technical and administrative support in managing and coordinating the development and production activities of Information Technology; and managing software, hardware, help desk, A/V systems, mobile telephones, and pagers. Reports to the IT Manager.

Responsibilities: Provides computer technical support to users with troubleshooting and solving application problems, designing and maintaining software such as databases, spreadsheets, and reports; Serves as technical consultant for staff in determining computer-related needs including hardware and software, networking capability and other special system configurations;  Serves as technical and project liaison between IT and City departments; Coordinates and installs various types of computer hardware and software systems including evaluation of vendors along with various levels and types of hardware and software available; Researches and recommends software and hardware, licenses, renewals and updates; Supports mobile telephones and pagers;  Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as billing invoices, Help Desk work orders, City budget and expenditure reports;  Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as requisition entries, special reports, data files and annual reports/surveys;  Provides website support with the creation and production of public content, reports, and dashboards;  Performs vendor supervision on contracted projects;  Refers to electronic documents, Internet websites, computer software and documentation, City network diagram, network computing, technology references and resources, policy and procedure manuals, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.;  Operates a variety of equipment such as network hardware, personal computer, servers, printers, telecommunication devices, etc.;  Uses a variety of software and hardware tools and various technology supplies; Uses operating systems, productivity suites, ERM, CRM, etc.;  Codes, develops, and reviews projects for the City as requested;  Provides desktop support within the City to ensure their proper functioning;  Attends seminars to stay informed and updated with technology trends.

Job Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information systems management or related field with one to two (1-2) years of experience in a computer related field or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; additional hours as scheduled.

Hourly Rate:  Grade 109 – Salary dependent on experience;  minimum salary $33,941

Administrative Clerk/Receptionist

The City of Greer is seeking an Administrative Clerk/Receptionist in the Administration Department.  This position performs clerical and administrative duties in City Hall under the supervision of the Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities: Issue and receive fees for business licenses and permits; Collect and receipt fees and taxes for all departments; Issue building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, grading and moving permits; Reconcile all receipts entered each day; Prepare various reports using Microsoft Office and Finance software; Answer telephone, provide information to callers, and direct calls; Monitor visitor access, provide information, and direct to correct destination; Maintain reception/clerk areas.

Job Requirements: High School Diploma and three years of experience in general office work; Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Office Technology, or related field preferred; Experience in Word and Excel necessary; Must obtain the ICC Permit Technician certification within two years, or obtain the SC BLOA Accreditation in business licensing within three years.  Must be able to deal effectively, courteously and professionally with the public in handling inquiries and communicating information.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.

Uniform Patrol Officer I

Events / Rentals Assistants (part-time)


Position will remain open until filled

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for Multiple Part-Time Events Assistants in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position will assist with the functions held at the City of Greer Events Center. 

Responsibilities:  Assists with the coordination of activities and events for the facility/park, which involves setting up, decorating and executing parties and events; assists in the preparation for the event to include renting facilities, ensuring cleanliness and that rules and regulations are followed by participants; involves repetitious lifting and moving of tables and chairs in set-up and take-down of event; Interacts with the public by providing facility/park tours, greeting visitors, providing directions; Provides information to the public regarding fees, availability and requirements for use; may assist with the coordination of the events calendar;  Maintains records and files on activities and events; Assists with Events Division inventory and related supplies and records.

Job requirements: High School diploma/GED. Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Hours:  Hours will vary depending upon schedule of events; primarily Thursday through Sunday and evenings; hours dependent on event schedules.

Salary: $11.87 hour
