Grounds Supervisor

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Grounds Supervisor in the Parks and Recreation Department.  

Responsibilities: Supervises and performs ground maintenance for parks and recreation grounds which involves ensuring  cleanliness of grounds, preparing park grounds for athletic activities, weddings, parties, festivals, etc.;  Establishes a comprehensive horticultural program for a variety of trees, shrubs, turf and flower beds;  Performs supervisory duties as necessary to include instructing, assigning and reviewing work, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, evaluates performance and made recommendations;  Performs electrical maintenance duties to include replacing lights indoors and outdoors;  Performs minor plumbing maintenance duties and repairs and maintains irrigation system;  Conducts minor repairs on mowers, weedeaters, blower, chain saw and tractor;  Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of reports and documents;  Conducts safety checks on truck and tools contents;  Performs landscaping activities such as erosion control;  Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the restrooms.

Job Requirements:   Bachelor’s degree is preferred in Horticulture or related field with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in grounds maintenance; Must have knowledge of materials, methods, horticultural practices and equipment used in park grounds maintenance and minor repair activities in the areas of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, irrigation, painting, and mechanical; Prefer supervisory experience; Must possess, or obtain within first year of employment Licensed South Carolina Chemical applicator certification and CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector) Certification;  SC Commercial Driver’s License, preferred. Must possess a valid State issued drivers’ license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 7:00 to 3:30 PM; additional hours as scheduled; some weekends required.

Salary:  Grade 5 – Salary dependent upon experience; minimum salary $30,156 year

Code Enforcement/Building Inspector
(part-time)

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Part-time Code Enforcement/ Building Inspector.  This position under general supervision performs skilled work for the Building Inspection and Code Enforcement Division.  Work involves performing new construction inspections of new and existing buildings and assists with nuisance abatement inspections for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances. Reports to the Building Official.

Responsibilities: Inspects building and structures that are under construction to determine compliance with the City building codes as required for the promotion of consumer/public safety and welfare; inspects footings, slabs, foundation, beams, columns, roofing, concrete, energy codes, etc.  Conducts various other inspections to ensure code compliance including re-inspections, pools, trailers, fire damage, land use, etc.  Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals involved in the operations of the department including contractors, property owners, etc. in order to explain and interpret codes and regulations regarding construction, alteration and repair of buildings.  Prepares and maintains necessary reports of inspections made; prepares and processes monthly reports of total inspections performed.

Job requirements: Vocational/Technical school training in building construction and design with a minimum of two (2) years building construction or inspections; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must possess, or get certified through the International Code Congress as a Property Maintenance and Residential Inspector within two (2) years from date of hire. At least one (1) certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire; must have a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM; additional hours as scheduled.

Salary:  $15.51 hour (Grade 6); no benefits are provided with part-time positions.

Recreation Leader

(part-time)

The City of Greer is seeking a part-time Recreation Leader in the Recreation Department.

Responsibilities: Assists in the planning and implementation of various programs, including Athletic Division, Recreation Division, Cultural Arts Division and Events Division activities; Assists in promoting recreation center programs and providing information to the public; Clerical responsibilities involve completing reports, activity schedules, filing, copying, correspondence, etc.

Job Requirements: High School Diploma/GED supplemented by two years of responsible experience in recreation programming or general administration or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid state issued driver’s license.

Hours:  Approximately 25 hours per week; Hours and days will vary; Weekend, evening and holiday work required. 

Salary:  $10.88/hour.

Public Services Worker I

The City of Greer is accepting applications for a Public Services Worker I in our Public Services Department. 

Responsibilities: Various labor duties involving cleaning streets, trimming limbs, cutting grass, and repairing sidewalks, etc.  This position will also be responsible for minor repairs in City buildings, picking up trash and debris and cleaning ditches and drains.  Will operate variety of equipment and tools.

Job Requirements:  Must have a high school diploma or GED.  Minimum one (1) year of experience in maintenance, truck, equipment operations or other relevant experience.  Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license and able to pass drug screen and criminal/credit background check.

Salary: Minimum salary $23,006 (Grade 1); dependent on experience.

Events Assistant

is currently accepting applications for Multiple Part-Time Events Assistants in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position will assist with the functions held at the City of Greer Events Center.


Responsibilities
:  Assists with the coordination of activities and events for the facility/park, which involves setting up, decorating and executing parties and events; assists in the preparation for the event to include renting facilities, ensuring cleanliness and that rules and regulations are followed by participants; involves repetitious lifting and moving of tables and chairs in set-up and take-down of event; Interacts with the public by providing facility/park tours, greeting visitors, providing directions; Provides information to the public regarding fees, availability and requirements for use; may assist with the coordination of the events calendar;  Maintains records and files on activities and events; Assists with Events Division inventory and related supplies and records.

Job requirements:
High School diploma/GED. Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Hours
:  Hours will vary depending upon schedule of events; primarily Thursday through Sunday and evenings; hours dependent on event schedules.

Salary: $10.73 hour.
