City Engineer & Department Head
Building and Development Standards

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a City Engineer/Department Head, Building and Development Standards.  Under little or no direct supervision, plans, develops, supervises and directs the operations and administration of the Building and Development Standards Department, including engineering, property and building standards, storm water management and drains, planning, zoning and GIS.  Performs related professional, administrative and supervisory work as required.  Reports to the City Administrator.

Responsibilities: Plans, directs and supervises the administration and operations of the Building and Development Standards Department’s multiple divisions, including engineering, property and building standards, planning, zoning, GIS and storm water management; Seeks and administers grant funds for special projects and programs; Coordinates and reviews engineering design and gives directive to personnel in the preparation of plans, specifications, contract documents, etc., for various public projects; Reviews and approves residential and commercial development plans to ensure compliance with City standards; meets with developers and engineers; makes recommendations to the Planning Commission regarding development projects; Reviews City development standards and makes changes as needed to keep current with new technology, products, trends, methods, etc.; Conducts in-depth engineering analysis for the City, and makes recommendations for future public works projects; Inspects existing conditions of streets and storm drainage; makes recommendations for repair and maintenance as indicated; Coordinates traditional and GPS surveying for construction projects; reviews drawings; Reviews plans and specifications for proposed construction; performs calculations on proposed subdivisions, commercial sites, etc., as needed; Prepares and negotiates easements that cross private properties; Verifies DHEC submittals for new subdivisions; prepares DHEC and Department of Transportation permit applications and supporting documentation for City projects as needed; Coordinates with DHEC and DOT personnel for site inspections; Serves as department liaison to City management, City Council, other City departments, community and civic organizations, boards and commissions, committees, and other various government entities and other agencies; Maintains City storm sewer and street maps and master plans; updates maps both manually and by using GIS and Autocad technology; Prepares special reports for presentation by the City Administrator and other representatives of the City; Receives and reviews various records and reports including plans, specifications, easement documents, development plans, budget documents, billing statements, bid proposals, permit applications, etc.; Receives and responds to public and news media inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints; Attends community meetings and events as appropriate and serves on various committees as required; Attends City Council meetings and provides information as requested;

Job requirements: Bachelor's degree in civil, structural or related engineering field with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering / public works operations and administration, some of which has been in a supervisory or managerial capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be certified as a S.C. Professional Engineer.  Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Salary:  Salary dependent upon experience

Events Assistant

The City of Greer
is currently accepting applications for Multiple Part-Time Events Assistants in the Parks and Recreation Department.  This position will assist with the functions held at the City of Greer Events Center.

:  Assists with the coordination of activities and events for the facility/park, which involves setting up, decorating and executing parties and events; assists in the preparation for the event to include renting facilities, ensuring cleanliness and that rules and regulations are followed by participants; involves repetitious lifting and moving of tables and chairs in set-up and take-down of event; Interacts with the public by providing facility/park tours, greeting visitors, providing directions; Provides information to the public regarding fees, availability and requirements for use; may assist with the coordination of the events calendar;  Maintains records and files on activities and events; Assists with Events Division inventory and related supplies and records.

Job requirements:
High School diploma/GED. Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

:  Hours will vary depending upon schedule of events; primarily Thursday through Sunday and evenings; hours dependent on event schedules.

Salary: $10.73 hour.
