Tennis is a popular sport in the City. Each year the tennis courts are full of people enjoying this great physical activity. The Tennis Association of Greer (TAG) is the programming board for the Recreation Department. They host the George Crossland Memorial Tournament, a USTA and SCTA sanctioned event, held in October. Players from all over the region participate in this tournament. TAG also sponsors a youth team play, youth clinics and adult lessons.

Tryon Park Home to George Crossland Courts

This year's Greer Open, George Crossland Memorial Tournament, began with a special ceremony naming the courts after long time tennis advocate George Crossland. Crossland who died in April of 2000 was known as Mr. Tennis in the Greer Community. Always encouraging people to play, he founded the Greer Open, coached at Greer High School and was the Treasurer of TAG. He volunteered many hours  teaching youth how to play tennis. The ceremony included remarks from Mayor Rick Danner, Dr. Graham Lawrence, President of TAG, Dick Ploof, Parks & Recreation Director, Dr. Kyle Allen, Crossland's Pastor and members of Crossland's Family.
