Programs span kid etiquette to dog obedience

Elbows on the table. Fur on the sofa. Toys underfoot. The City of Greer is offering new recreation programs that may help bring order to parents' lives and fitness to their kids' lives.

"We are always open to new ideas and are looking for fun and informative ways to enrich the lives of our residents," Programs Supervisor Katie Buck said.

Parents who need free time to run errands and to get a head start on their Christmas shopping may be interested in “Crafty Kids,” a holiday arts and crafts class for children ages 5-12.  The class will be offered from 3:30 until 4:40 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from Nov. 29 through Dec. 14 at the Needmore Recreation Center.  The cost is $5 per class.

A six-week obedience class for dogs 20 weeks and older is planned for Monday evenings at the Victor Gym.  One-hour classes will begin at 7 p.m. and will include professional instruction for owners and their dogs.  The cost is $145 for the full program.

It’s never too early (or late) for children to learn good manners and etiquette.  That’s the belief behind “MannersRx,” two-hour classes for kindergarteners through high school students.  Classes will be held from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays.  Monthly tuition is $65 per month for all ages.

Adults have long sung the praises of yoga classes.  Children can now enjoy the same benefits Saturdays from 11-11:45 a.m. at the Victor Gym Social Hall.  Open to children ages 5-10, the yoga classes are offered at $40 for each four-week session.
