Pickup Requirements
Regular Household Waste
- The rollout container ("greencart") provided to you by the City of Greer must be used for storage and disposal of household garbage. Do not place yard waste (soil, sod, grass, leaves, clippings, limbs, etc.) in the rollout container.
- The rollout container and its care is the responsibility of the resident. It should be cleaned regularly and kept closed to keep water out. Store the container beside or behind the house or in an enclosure.
- On your (once weekly) collection day place the container along the curb or edge of street prior to 7:30 AM (but no earlier than 7:30 PM on the night before). Remove (and store) the container from the street by 7:30 PM on collection day. The front of the container shall face the street (hinge and wheels toward the house) and shall be clear of all objects such as fences, mailboxes, vehicles, etc.
- Poisons, combustive or construction materials (concrete, lumber, bricks, etc.), acids, caustics, petroleum based products and other dangerous materials shall not be placed in the rollout container.
Yard Debris
- Grass, leaves (except during fall leaf collection) and small hedge trimmings shall be placed in bags for pickup. Bags should be readily available lawn and leaf bags with a capacity no larger than 39 gallons.
- Limited amounts of tree limbs and bush trimmings - up to an amount equal to that of a pickup truck bed - will be collected by the city. Materials shall be piled as neatly as possible, preferably with all cut ends laid in the same direction. Limbs are to be no larger than 6 feet in length and 6 inches in diameter. Note that contractor debris must be cleaned up and removed by the contractor. Trees that are cut, topped, or removed must be cleaned up and remoed by the homeowner.
- Place yard debris along the curb or edge of street. Soil and sod and other excavated material will not be collected.
- The City of Greer will provide a recycling container to residents at no cost.
- Items currently collected are aluminum and paper products. Please do not place glass or plastic items in your recylcing bin. Those items may be taken to the City Recycling Center (see link above for directions and contact information).
- Please rinse aluminum cans and place them loose in the recycling bin. Also, please make every effort to keep paper items contained and dry by placing them in a paper bag or in an an empty cardboard soda carton.
- Place the recycling bin next to your green roll cart trash container on the morning of collection.
Miscellaneous
- If you move, please leave the rollout and recycling container at the residence and call the Public Services Department at 848-2184 so we can pick up the containers for safe keeping. The City of Greer maintains ownership of the containers.
- Immediately report damaged or stolen containers to the Public Services Department.
- Refer to schedules for any special changes such as holiday pick-up.
- Any resident who is physically unable to place the containers at the curb will receive "at the house" service from the city. The resident must provide evidence of inability to transport the container and no able bodied person who can transport the cart may live in the residence. Residents needing assistance should call the Public Services Department.
- Leaf machines are operated during the leaf season (Nov.-Feb.). Loose leaves may be placed along the curb or edge of street during this season. Catch basins, inlets and gutters should be kept free of leaves.
- The resident shall be required to pay the cost of repair or replacement of any container which is damaged or worn out unless the damage is the result of the actions of city collection personnel.
- Yard wastes produced and collected by contractors who work for city residents must be disposed of by the contractor.
