Training Division
The Greer Police Department's training team is committed to providing advanced training to its officers in order to enhance their safety while performing their duties and to provide a better quality of service to the community.
The Greer Police Department allows officers from any law enforcement agency to attend the classes it hosts.
The Greer Police Department opened in 2008 at its new location, 102 South Main Street. Part of the department's new complex is a state-of-the-art training room used to provide advanced training for GPD officers as well as officers from agencies across the Southeast. The training room is equiped with a projection system, plasma screens, and a wide range of audio/visual equipment that operates via a wireless remote system.
During the 2010 calendar year, the GPD training staff hosted 70 classes that drew more than 1,750 attendees. The department also makes available S.C. Criminal Justice Academy telecourses via satellite. Classes that previously have not been offered in the region are now being held in Greer and offered to multiple agencies. Companies such as Taser and Glock are using the GPD facilities for testing and have allowed department members to test new equipment in the field.
With more than 20 department members now certified as instructors in various courses, GPD has a wealth of expertise both in the classroom and in the field.
Future training opportunities are listed below, when available. Certified officers interested in taking classes at the Greer Police Department should contact
Sgt. Ballenger at the Greer Police Department at (864) 801-1149.
