Ron DeKett's photos on display at City Hall
A career in journalism helped craft Ron DeKett's photography skills and now, as an editor with
The Greenville News, he can look back on an early reporting job in Michigan for the explanation.
"People always looked at photographs. They didn’t always read stories," he noted.
Twenty-five of DeKett's photos comprise the Wall Gallery's September exhibit at Greer City Hall. The exhibit is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays in the lobby of the second-floor Events Center. Original prints are available for purchase.
"Many of my photographs are of a single object – the husk of a milk pod, an ice-covered horse or a daisy framed by a wrought iron fence," he said. "I often focus on the “one” because the act of being distinguishes one object from another. The object is unique in its aloneness even as it is harmonious with its environment.
"I take photographs so that others will notice and possibly appreciate what is often overlooked – small pieces of the world that give it beauty and continuity."
