Greer Athletics Programming

The City of Greer Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of sports programming designed to be both fun and informative for young people.  Participation in these programs continues to set new records each year as the parents and young athletes discover the quality of the city's sports programs and the physical and social benefits associated with participating in sports.

As a member of a team, young people develop skills needed to socialize with teammates and adult coaches, including the ability to make decisions and to accept responsibilities.  They may develop leadership skills, independence, and confidence along with a sense of accomplishment that helps lead to a positive self-image.  Physical activity brings with it several benefits including improved agility, coordination, endurance, flexibility, speed, and strength.  Please take a look at the City of Greer's youth sports offerings below to find a program that is right for you or your child.

Greer 8U Champs

The City of Greer offers different levels of play for youth ages 3-19.  Each division is designed to help players develop skill level.  Our program offers six different leagues.  5U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 19U.  We call Country Club Park, Stevens Field, and Century Park home.  All of our parks are located within 5 minutes of Downtown Greer, SC.  Our umpires are certified every season.  All of our coaches are volunteers who enjoy teaching the game of baseball.    You will notice that our registration fee is around 50 dollars cheaper than most leagues in Greenville County.  It is our goal to do more with less.  We spare no expense on uniforms, umpires, and field equipment.   Our coaches, baseball board, and athletic staff work very hard to produce a product our city is proud of.  We are very proud of our alumni now playing on various middle school, high school, and college teams.    Some of our alumni include Adam Crisp (USC), Drew Crisp (USC), Daniel Palka (GT) and many more.   If you are interested in joining our program as a coach please email choltzclaw@cityofgreer.org or jmiller@cityofgreer.org.  Our registration fee is $75 for in city residents and $85 for out of city residents.

Greer is a hotbed of softball talent, as youth league teams annually compete for district and state titles. In 2007, the 9-10 Greer All-Stars won the District 7 Tournament and went on to claim the South Carolina Championship. The 11-12 Greer All-Stars were runners-up for the District 7 Championship.  For the 2010 Fall season all greer softball participants will compete through Dixie affiliation.  We asked that you sign up early for this program in order to be placed.  Spots are limited.  If 3 teams are reached in one division all play will be facilitated at Victor Park.  If  a division has 2 or fewer teams interleague play will be required (Mauldin, Fountain Inn,.....)  Registration fee is $75 for city residents and $85 for out of city residents.

Cheer for Greer manages the city's cheerleading program. Girls may begin to cheer at age six (6) and continue through age (14). The girls cheer for the recreation football teams from September through November, and some of the girls continue to cheer in competitions conducted throughout the year. Squads usually practice twice a week before the season and then once a week in addition to one game during the season. Competition teams will practice more because those teams require more technical skills than recreation cheerleading. The cheerleading coaches are all volunteers devoted to helping girls improve their skills.  Registration fee is $60 for in city residents and $70 for out of city residents.
