The Greer Police Department's Detention Facility is a Type I facility under standards set forth by the South Carolina Department of Corrections. The Detention Facility has been in some form of operation since its construction in 1976. The facility consists of twelve individual occupancy cells and two holding cells that can hold up to three individuals.
48 Hour Hold
This facility only houses male inmates for a maximum of forty-eight hours. All arrestees are processed and held pending their initial arraignment by a Greer Municipal Court Judge. If an arrestee's housing is to exceed forty-eight hours they will be transferred to either the Greenville County or Spartanburg County Detention Center.
The facility is manned by officers who receive a Class II Corrections Officer certification from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. The facility is located at 102 S Main Street as part of the Police Department.
