Each Spring, this program for senior adults introduces them to computers and healthcare information that is accessible online (e-health).
The benefits of internet literacy for senior adults include increase of brain activity in areas of the brain associated with memory and decision making, reduced chance of depression and increased exposure to social activity. This program is for individuals over the age of 50.
We will teach basic computer functions and web navigation, so that they can learn how to set up and check email, open and download attachments, introduce them to social media, and learn benefits that are offered to senior adults through websites such as USA.gov, SSA.gov, Medicare.gov, NIHSeniorHealth.gov, etc. This will allow them to access information to manage health conditions online, order prescriptions and groceries online, and remain independent in their homes longer. We will also educate them on locations of local public access for computers and internet.
Participants can bring their own laptop/tablet, or use a personal laptop provided by the instructor.
