Community Outreach

The Greer Police Department's Community Outreach Team is comprised of specialized officers who are responsible for implementing community-oriented policing and problem-solving strategies for the department. These strategies are purpose driven and focused on specific issues that cause concern for area neighborhoods.

Community Policing

Community Policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies that support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime.

Collaboration

The Community Outreach Team is a section of the Administrative Division and is supervised by Sergeant Ashley Wright. Sergeant Wright takes the lead in scheduling and promoting special events and operations. The Team works closely with members of the community and with other Teams within the department such as:

  • Crime Analyst

  • Criminal Investigations

  • K9

  • Patrol

  • Traffic

  • Vice

Duties

The Community Outreach Team duties consist of addressing community concerns from residents and businesses, working street level criminal and traffic enforcement, targeting prolific offenders, assisting in establishing neighborhood watch programs, attending community meetings and performing a variety of other functions.

School Resource Officers

The Community Outreach Team includes School Resource Officers Steve Anderson (Riverside High School), Lisa Godfrey (Riverside Middle School), Perry Bowens (Greer High School),Ivan Moreno (Greer Middle School), Joel Galli (Woodland Elementary School, Christian Aguayo-Ruiz (Abner Creek Academy), and Brandon Akers (J. Harley Bonds Career Center). These officers are highly trained in juvenile related matters and work closely with School Staff, Students, and Parents. These officers also conduct the department's Youth Summer Camps.
