Grounds Maintenance

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Grounds Superintendent, the Grounds Maintenance Division is responsible for the upkeep of more than 145 acres of public parks during all seasons, as well as the landscaping and upkeep of downtown flower beds and public parking lots.

The Division also annually:

  • Provides support to all divisions by supplying staff for scheduled city and private events at night and/or on weekends.

  • With assistance from the Public Services Department, is responsible for installation and removal of all Christmas Decorations throughout the City.

  • Takes down and installs a total of 220 banners on four occasions downtown and in Greer City Park.

  • Cleans and stocks restrooms at City Park and Kids Planet 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

  • Cleans and stocks recreation centers five days a week.

Past Projects

  • Installed over 360 perennial flowers, trees and shrubs throughout the park system.

  • Established two color changes to annual plant beds at City Park and Barnett Bridge, consisting of approximately 3,200 plants.

  • Spread 8,370 cubic feet of mulch in beds and playgrounds throughout the park system. This amount of mulch would fill just over three tractor-trailers.
