Neighbors are pitching in to help keep their community clean.
Check out these photos from a collaborative clean-up along Snow Road on Saturday. Neighbors from Franklin Pointe and Braeburn Orchard worked together to collect 25 bags of trash. The Greer Police Department helped keep volunteers safe as they worked on the side of the road.
Want to organize a similar event? The City of Greer can provide litter cleanup supplies including trash bags, litter-pickers, gloves, and vests. Learn more on our Litter Resources and Neighborhood Services pages.

🎉 UPDATE: Great news! The work is complete at Kids Planet and the surface is dry. Therefore, the big kids playground is reopening at 3 p.m. today!

An outdoor amenity at one of Greer’s community centers is back open just in time for warm weather activities.
Contractors tore down the aging deck at Needmore Recreation Center on Canteen Avenue and put up a new structure. The deck is available for a variety of community uses, but it’s the site of a lot of activities for kids ages 6 through 12 during Camp Greer over the summer months.
Learn more about Camp Greer and other youth programs on the Youth Summer Camps page.

Recognizing the generational impact of a well-known family business: Greer Mayor Rick Danner presented a Key to the City to Terry and Debbie Dobson at Tuesday’s Council meeting.
Dobson’s Gifts and General Hardware has had a presence in the City of Greer since 1945. The Dobsons have decided to retire and close their store on Wade Hampton Boulevard.
In presenting the Key to the City, the mayor said the store’s closing marks the end of an era in Greer. The Dobsons thanked the community and said they couldn’t have done it without the support of their customers.

All City of Greer fields are closed tonight (3/10) due to the weather.

Trash collection delay: Meridian Waste experienced mechanical issues while running Tuesday's route. Crews will pick up in Chartwell, Bent Creek I, Freeman Farm, Manor at Abner Creek, and Donahue Hill on Wednesday (today).

The weather is going to be beautiful for the next couple of days which is a great pre-spring opportunity to spend some time outside at one of Greer’s 21 parks.
As you’re making your plans, please note: One of our popular playgrounds will be closed for repairs starting tomorrow morning.
The ground surface on the big kids’ playground (for ages 5-12) at Kids Planet is damaged. Crews will close the playground from Wednesday morning until lunchtime on Thursday to fix the damage. We’ll let you know if the repairs take longer than expected.

The B.P. Edwards Neighborhood Park will be back open Thursday to foot traffic only. Crews have finished repaving the lot, but the new surface needs more time for the asphalt to cool and settle. We expect to reopen the parking lot on Friday.

B.P. Edwards Neighborhood Park on Oak Street will be closed on Wed., Jan. 29 for improvements to the parking lot. If all goes as planned with the project, we expect to reopen the park by Thursday morning.

Meridian Waste is working to catch up on trash collection delays caused by the winter weather. They're planning to complete Wednesday and Thursday routes today. Take a look at specific neighborhoods impacted here: https://www.cityofgreer.org/article/1985203

The City of Greer Parks, Recreation & Tourism department just wrapped up a rocking partnership with Chandler Creek Elementary and Greer Middle School over the past few weeks.
Students at both schools took part in the Rock your School initiative and painted various rocks that are now on display at Tryon Park. The Rock your School program is designed to get kids involved in a fun and creative activity that helps to spread kindness and celebrating the little things.

Debris clean up after Helene is still underway in Greer, and we have a few more updates for you this week.
SCDOT has collected 340,000 cubic yards of debris as of 11/14 across Greenville County. Collection will continue until at least January for our area. For the rest of the month in Greer, there will be a focus on Wade Hampton from US29/SC 291 all the way to the eastern county border with Spartanburg County.
We understand some people still haven’t had debris picked up or it may seem as if DOT is missing certain areas. Due to how FEMA structures its reimbursements, state road and city road debris cannot be mixed together. What this means is that the same trucks can’t pick up debris from state and city roads at the same time. DOT is using their own crews as well as contracted crews for work here in Greer. Lastly, any root balls or large logs will eventually be picked up with the use of larger equipment.

A heads up to anyone travelling on South Line St Extension: our storm water crews will have the road closed this week for crossline repairs. The closure started yesterday; November 18 ad will last at least until the end of the week (weather permitting.) Drivers should plan to find alternate routes until work is completed.
