Hundreds of men and women work tirelessly behind the scenes to support our growing city, but this holiday weekend seems a great time to put a few of them in the spotlight.
The folks pictured here are members of Team Greer who have recently celebrated milestone work anniversaries. At the last City Council meeting, Mayor Rick Danner and City Administrator Andy Merriman recognized employees who have been part of our team for five, ten, or 15 years.
We want to say thank you to each of these dedicated public servants.

The Greer Farmers Market is always a great way to shop local, but this week’s event will highlight what grows here naturally.
The “I’m Local” theme will be a celebration of native plants. One of the featured activities is a plant swap – bring a plant & take a plant.
Stop by Greer City Park on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout July and August to support local farmers, artisans, and food truck vendors.
Visit https://greerfarmersmarket.com/ for weekly themes, live entertainment, special guests, and vendors lists.

Freedom Blast 2025 is behind us, and we want to thank everyone who attended and those who helped make it happen.
With more than 20,000 attendees, this year’s event was the largest Freedom Blast to date. It also drew the most veteran participation yet for the MSG Preston B. Johnson Veterans Walk.
Honoring local veterans is what the show is all about, and we’re grateful to the Greer community for showing them the respect they deserve.
We’ll share more Freedom Blast recap coverage in the coming days, so stay tuned.

Freedom Blast will light up the sky tonight in downtown Greer, but some beautiful colors brighten up our streets during the day.
The City of Greer’s Urban Parks team thoughtfully plans, plants, and cares for a variety of flowers, plants, and shrubs in our downtown landscaping.
Here’s a beautiful example of their work at the corner of Trade and Randall – right in front of the Historic Greer Depot.
After the city’s streetscape project wrapped up in 2022, the team planted 16 pink and red hibiscus plants, eight purple diamond loropetalum, eight Golden Globe arborvitae, and two limelight hydrangea trees on that corner.
If you’re coming downtown this weekend, be sure to stop and enjoy the result of the team’s hard work.

We’re two days away from the 16th annual Freedom Blast event in Greer City Park.
Join us Saturday, June 28, from 6 to 10:30 p.m. for a military tribute, skydiving, live music, fireworks, and more.

Spring is here, and with it comes Spring Cleaning Day in Greer.
This annual event is a great opportunity to get rid of things you shouldn’t just toss in your trash can. You must receive City of Greer trash services to participate.
We’re partnering with North Ward Environmental Services, Shred With Us LLC, and the Greer Police Department to collect left-over prescription drugs, documents, cleaners, fluorescent bulbs, paint, and more. Starting Saturday, the Convenience Center will begin accepting e-waste, household batteries, oil, and antifreeze again. No car or large batteries will be accepted at this time.
Drop off your spring cleaning items this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
For more information, check out our Convenience Center page: https://www.cityofgreersc.gov/o/greersc/page/ps-convenience-center

Greenville County Schools honored the Greer Fire Department for giving high school students the opportunity to get real-world work experience.
At the district’s Business Partner Appreciation event at the CTE Innovation Center at Roper Mountain, district leaders recognized the Greer Fire Department as Bonds Career Center’s Business Partner of the Year.
Deputy Fire Chief Josh Holzheimer accepted the award. Holzheimer was instrumental in establishing a work-based learning partnership with Bonds several years ago. Selected students earn co-op placements where they get to work alongside professional firefighters and first responders. By the way, four former co-op students became full-time employees at the Greer Fire Department.

Improving the safety and accessibility of the city’s sidewalks…
The Public Services team recently replaced a 104-foot section of sidewalk on Duke Street where a utility installation had created a tripping hazard. On Hubert and South Miller, the team repaired a 74-foot section of sidewalk and added a new ADA mat.
You can report safety issues in the city through an online portal. Check it out here: https://bit.ly/greerreportissue
