Drone Shot of the Future Public Safety Training Center as of September 2025

September has been a big month for two of the four ForGreer projects. The Public Safety Training Center on Hood Road is on track for a Spring 2026 opening. It’s still early, but the Sports & Events Center project is on an aggressive schedule to meet the goal of an early 2027 opening.

Sports and Events Center Sign at Construction Site

Since the groundbreaking in August, activity has picked up quickly at the site of the city’s new Sports & Events Center on Highway 14. Just this week, Greer City Council voted unanimously to release more than $19 million to Harper General Contractors to keep the project moving. The funds will pay for structural steel, pre-cast and cast-in-place concrete, gym equipment, and many other products that have long lead times for delivery.

Also this week on the 26-acre site that stretches from Highway 14 to S. Buncombe Rd.:

·      Crews are installing the construction fencing along Highway 14

·      City leaders got their first look at recommendations for interior “finishes”

·      Vendors delivered materials needed for critical site infrastructure

When the new Sports & Events Center is complete, it will provide opportunities for the city’s Parks, Recreation & Tourism department to expand its programming to serve more people of all ages and interests. The facility will have the capacity to host tournaments to help pay for operational costs, and it will have several flexible spaces people can rent for meetings and events.

The Public Safety Training Center site looks dramatically different this week. You can actually see the changes from Hood Road. Crews began putting up masonry on the outside of the main building which will contain the 50-yard shooting range, training rooms, and offices. Also this week:

·      Crews began painting the shooting range

·      The fifth floor of the burn tower is taking shape

·      Work started on the apparatus storage building

Up next: Installation of “storefront” glass on the main building

When the Public Safety Training Center opens in the spring of 2026, it will be a game-changer for the Greer Police and Fire Departments. The state-of-the-art facility will allow our employees to have more flexible options for training here at home instead of having to travel to other cities to use their facilities. Both departments will also have the ability to host training with their public safety partners, which will improve emergency response far beyond the city limits.
