Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, nutritional assistance programs such as SNAP and WIC have experienced delays. As a result, many local families are facing temporary gaps in access to food and household support.

Greer Relief has activated Crisis Emergency Food Assistance operations to help meet these immediate needs.

Additionally, federal employees at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport - including TSA, FAA, and CBP staff - are continuing to work without pay. GSP is maintaining an ongoing food drive, while Greer Relief is supplementing those efforts with perishable food support and connections to local resources.

Food banks and pantries alone cannot meet the increased needs created by delayed federal benefits. Below is information on how residents can receive support or help our neighbors in need during this time.

Need Support?

Starting this week:

  • Residents are encouraged to call the 2-1-1 resource line or the Greer Relief direct line to be quickly connected with available food and assistance programs.

  • Greer Relief is distributing household-sized food bags that include at least five days’ worth of both non-perishable and perishable items.

Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to dial 2-1-1 or contact Greer Relief directly at 864-334-3510.

Want to Help?

To support neighbors impacted by the shutdown, Greer Relief is:

  • Accepting donations of non-perishable food items (see list below)

  • Welcoming financial contributions to replenish food supplies and sustain emergency operations

  • Seeking volunteers to help pack and distribute emergency food bags

  • Encouraging corporate partners to consider contingency micro-grants ($5,000–$10,000) for food assistance to federal workers and families

  • Asking community members to share verified information directing residents to 2-1-1 and Greer Relief for food and emergency assistance
