Next week is going to be a big one at the site of Greer's new Sports & Events Center. Early next week, suppliers will begin delivering precast walls manufactured at Metromont in Greenville County.

This week, the team assembled a large crane that will help move the walls into place.

Crews expect to be finished laying the foundation for the facility as early as next week. Soon, workers will begin assembling a large crane to prepare for the installation of pre-cast concrete walls that are currently being manufactured off-site.

Greer City Council unanimously approved the proposed Guaranteed Maximum Price of $69,334,076 for the construction of the Greer Sports & Events Center. Harper General Contractors worked with city staff and architects at McMillan Pazdan Smith to set the GMP. As the Construction Manager at Risk for the Sports & Events Center project, Harper has agreed to absorb any cost over the GMP and share any unused funds with the city as outlined in the agreement.

The Greer Sports & Events Center is hitting some exciting milestones in the month of November.

A large crane is on site putting up forms for cast-in-place concrete walls. Eventually, crews will pour wet concrete into those forms and let it cure on site.

FYI: Some of the walls of the Sports & Events Center will be made of what’s called “pre-cast concrete.” Manufacturers will pour those walls into forms off-site and deliver them to the property on Highway 14 when it’s time to install them.

The center’s main driveway is starting to take shape. The area has been graded, and crews will be putting in stone and a binder coat soon to get the driveway ready for asphalt.

Crews have made a ton of progress at the Public Safety Training Center site.

Metal panels are up on the exterior of the main building, and this week, crews are putting up drywall and setting curbs in the parking lot.

Workers are installing fire tile and fire brick on the burn tower, and they’re starting to build the wood training roof this week.

The apparatus storage building is progressing well. The main structure is up, but the team is waiting on doors and some parts for the garage doors.

More updates coming soon. Stay tuned!
