GREER, SC -- 2026 will be a big year for the City of Greer as the community marks its sesquicentennial with a year-long celebration. The city has partnered with the Greer Heritage Museum to launch Greer150 beginning with a kickoff event on January 3 followed by monthly programs highlighting Greer’s past, present, and future.

Founded in 1876, Greer has grown from a small railroad town into a bustling hub of innovation and international commerce. The City of Greer has maintained its hometown feel and strong sense of place through intentional investments in its historic downtown, quality of life, and public safety.

Greer150 will celebrate the people, places, and milestones that have shaped the city over the past century and a half through events, stories, and community connection.

“Our sesquicentennial provides an opportunity to respectfully reflect on a history of progress rooted in resilience, grit, and adaptability,” said Greer Mayor Rick Danner. “As we honor our past through Greer150 celebrations, we’ll keep our eyes focused on forging a strong and vibrant future for the City of Greer.”

The Greer150 kickoff event on January 3 runs from noon to 4 p.m. at the Greer Heritage Museum and will feature new exhibits, activities, and refreshments. The first 20 guests will win free Greer150 merch.

Greer Heritage Museum Director, David Lovegrove, said the city’s 150th anniversary deserves to be celebrated in a meaningful way. “The museum is honored to help steward this celebration and preserve Greer’s legacy for the next 150 years.”

Throughout 2026, Greer150 celebrations will include a series of monthly events, cultural experiences, and family-friendly activities. Visit the Greer150 webpage to learn more and get involved.
