City of Greer -

Sunny days and warm winter temperatures have helped contractors make a ton of progress at the site of the city’s new Sports & Events Center. Crews expect to be finished laying the foundation for the facility as early as next week. Soon, workers will begin assembling a large crane to prepare for the installation of pre-cast concrete walls that are currently being manufactured off-site. 2026 marks Greer’s 150^th birthday and celebrations are in full swing! This year will be filled with events and programs dedicated to celebrating our history as well as our future. Up next will be a Valentine’s Day themed event with the Greer Heritage Museum where we will enjoy love stories from across our community’s 150-year history. Plans are underway for the 2026 City of Greer Juried Arts Exhibition. Submissions should fit the theme “150 years of Greer,” and those chosen to be featured on Greer150 merch will be eligible for a cash prize. The Center for the Arts will host a reception on February 10, and selected artwork will be on exhibit through March 28. Judge Hank Mims will swear in two new Greer City Council members at the first meeting of the new year on Tuesday night. 

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you and congratulations to former Deputy Fire Marshal Carl Howell on his well-earned retirement. Carl has served the Greer community for more than four decades and is well known for his work and his dedication to the Greer High School Yellow Jackets.
