Resolve to join our Book Club this year!

We start the new year with James by Percival Everett. James unfurls along the Mississippi River similarly to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. In Everett’s version, James and Huck face similar situations and meet familiar characters, but experiencing this world through James’s eyes pushes Twain’s story into new territory with even more complex, fascinating conflicts.

February’s selection is Marie Benedict’s work of historical fiction, The Only Woman in the Room. “She tells the life story of Hedy Lamarr, a famed actress of the 1930s and 1940s. The 2019 novel rewrites Lamarr’s legacy by focusing on her path towards inventing a frequency-hopping radio technology that anticipates wi-fi. Benedict uses the political machinations of WWII and Hedy’s experiences to explore performativity, guilt, and sexism.”

Big Cherry Holler by Adriana Trigiani is our March book. “It has been eight years since pharmacist and longtime spinster Ave Maria Mulligan married. What she hasn't counted on is that fate and the ghosts of the past will come to haunt her, and test the love she has for her husband.”
