The site of the new Greer Sports & Events Center is going to look dramatically different over the next couple of weeks as the exterior of the building starts to take shape.
Early next week, suppliers will begin delivering precast walls manufactured at Metromont in Greenville County. To prepare for the wall delivery, the team assembled another large crane on site. The crane is so big, it took several trips to get all the pieces to the property off Highway 14. The crane will help put up the walls made of a variety of materials such as concrete and brick. Fun fact: The precast walls contain more than 38,000 bricks.

The team has been working hard to get the majority of the underground infrastructure finished before the precast walls and structural steel arrive on site. Harper General Contractors is using high-tech modeling tools to coordinate with the design team and trade partners to make sure underground systems are placed and connected properly. The technology helps decrease downtime and avoid costly corrections.

Another big focus this month has been working with partners to control construction dust and erosion. Harper has brought back the water truck on warmer days to knock down the dust. Crenshaw Erosion Control has also been planting grass seed on slopes and in other areas with the goal of having as little exposed soil on the site as possible.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Sports & Events Center project comes together!
