10:45 a.m.:

We are starting to make decisions about our facilities and programming based on the most current weather forecasts. We will add new closings, delays, and cancellations as updates here, but please check our dedicated Closings, Cancellations, & Delays post for the most comprehensive list.

As of now, here's a look at modifications to our normal schedule based on the weather:

Friday, January 23, 2026

  • All athletic fields closed Friday, January 23 through Monday, January 26 & all athletic programming canceled

  • Greer Golf course closing at noon for nine days due to the weather; Pro Shop open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. if conditions allow.

Saturday, January 24, 2026

  • Athletic fields closed & athletic programming canceled

  • Greer Golf course closed; Pro Shop open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. if conditions allow.

Sunday, January 25, 2026

  • Athletic fields closed & athletic programming canceled

  • No jury trials in Municipal Court the week of Monday, January 26, and jury selection scheduled to begin on Monday is canceled

Wednesday, January 21, 9:00 p.m. Updates:

Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency in South Carolina today which activates the state's Emergency Operations Plan. That means state and local emergency management teams can begin to coordinate response plans, state agencies can mobilize resources, and the National Guard can active personnel and get equipment ready for deployment if needed.

Utility Providers:

Greer CPW is the biggest utility provider in the City of Greer. Check this webpage for important information to get ready for the winter weather, what to do during the winter storm, and what to do afterward.

If we experience power outages, Greer CPW will share real-time outage updates here.

Duke Energy has an online Storm Center for upstate customers. You can sign up for alerts, download Duke's mobile app, and report outages. Duke Energy has also set up a Business Storm Center. You can also read or download Duke's Storm Safety Brochure.

The City of Greer is already preparing for the potential impact of winter weather, but the forecast for the weekend and early next week is still fluctuating. We'll keep you posted on conditions and how that might affect you, but in the meantime, we wanted to share some resources to help you get your homes and vehicles ready.

The City of Greer's New App

A new way for us to communicate with you this year is the City of Greer's mobile app. Download our mobile app for iPhone or our mobile app for Android to your phone and other mobile devices. Enable notifications for City of Greer Updates, Emergency Services, and any other categories of interest for you and your family. 

Greer Fire Chief, Dorian Flowers, shared the following Winter Weather Safety Tips:

People -- Stay Warm and Safe

  • Dress in layers and cover all exposed skin.

  • Limit time outdoors in extreme cold.

  • Watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia.

  • Use approved heating equipment only.

  • Never use grills, charcoal, or generators indoors, including garages.

  • Install and maintain smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Test them to make sure they are working.

  • Prepare an emergency winter kit with food, water, flashlights, and blankets.

Pets and Animals

  • Bring pets indoors or provide warm, dry shelter.

  • Ensure pets have fresh, unfrozen water.

  • Protect paws from ice and chemical deicers.

  • Never leave pets unattended in cold vehicles.

Pipes and Homes

  • Insulate exposed pipes in unheated areas.

  • Let faucets drip during extreme cold.

  • Open cabinet doors to allow warm air circulation.

  • Use space heaters safely with at least 3 feet of clearance.

  • Never leave space heaters unattended.

  • Know the location of your main water shut-off valve.

Plants & Outdoor Property

  • Cover sensitive plants during freezing temperatures.

  • Bring potted plants indoors.

  • Disconnect and drain garden hoses.

  • Winterize irrigation systems.

  • Use ice melt products according to manufacturer instructions.

Slips, Falls, & Travel Safety

  • Wear footwear with good traction.

  • Use handrails and cleared walkways.

  • Apply salt or sand to icy surfaces.

  • Drive slowly and allow extra stopping distance.

  • Keep vehicle emergency supplies on hand.

Greenville County Emergency Management posted a list of items the agency recommends that people gather now to prepare for the potential weather emergency. Here's what they posted today on Facebook:

Recommended Home Kit Items:

  • Water: At least 1 gallon per person per day (and extra for pets/sanitation)

  • Non-perishable food (canned goods, energy bars, dried fruit) and a manual can opener

  • Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (with extra batteries) for updates

  • Flashlights, headlamps, or lanterns with extra batteries

  • First aid kit and prescription/non-prescription medications (at least 1-week supply)

  • Warm clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, hats, gloves, and sturdy shoes

  • Battery-powered or hand-crank phone charger/power bank

  • Sanitation items (moist towelettes, garbage bags, hand sanitizer)

  • Snow shovel, ice melt/rock salt, and traction materials (sand/cat litter)

  • Tested carbon monoxide (CO) detectors with fresh batteries—never use generators, grills, or ovens indoors
