GreerView for the Week of August 10, 2026 features back-to-school safety tips, info on two free outdoor concerts, and an opportunity to learn about one of the southeast's oldest Native American communities.

Back-to-School Safety

Students in Greenville County Schools will get back to the books on Tuesday, August 11, and Greer Police will be patrolling in an effort to keep kids, teachers, and drivers safe. Sgt. Matthew Wehrly is on GPD's traffic unit. He recommends that people who have to drive through school zones on their daily commute give themselves extra time to get where they're going. Officers will be enforcing school zone speed limits as well as other traffic rules. They might hand out warnings in the first few days of school, but drivers who don't follow the rules may also get traffic tickets.

Watch our video with Sgt. Wehrly to learn what to watch out for in school zones, when to stop for buses, and what could earn you a warning or a ticket.
