The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) recently awarded Greer’s team two national Green Star awards:
-Grand Award for Greer City Park
-Honor Award for Center for the Arts Park
Grounds Superintendent Gary Melton also brought home the Outstanding Leadership award. Thanks to Gary and his team for their dedication and hard work.

“Gee,” as he was affectionately known, was a fixture of the Greer community leading the Yellow Jackets marching band in the Christmas parade and enthusiastically cheering on the Greer High School and Greer youth football teams.
Guests at the dedication ceremony shared stories of Gee’s lasting impact and the legacy that will continue to inspire young athletes for generations to come.

Few individuals have embodied the spirit of Greer quite like Lonnie “Gee” McGee. For decades, Gee was an honorary member of the Greer High School football team and a beloved presence on the sidelines of Greer Youth Football where his encouragement and dedication inspired generations of players. His community spirit extended beyond the field, as he proudly led the Yellow Jackets Marching Band in the City of Greer’s annual Christmas Parade for many years, spreading joy to residents across the Upstate.
To commemorate his lasting impact, the City of Greer will dedicate the field at Greer City Stadium in his name on Monday, October 20, at 5:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place immediately prior to the 8U Greer Jr. Jackets playoff game. Please note that parking will be limited.
Teams expect to have all lamps repaired by tomorrow evening, but stay tuned for updates should the work take longer than anticipated.
The work is part of Spartanburg County’s Penny Tax initiative and is expected to continue through next week, with improvements planned for Broadus Street, Mill Avenue, Will Street, Prince Street, 4th Street, and Coldbrook Drive.

Registration for the Tomahawk Youth Wrestling program opens this Monday, Oct. 6 for city residents, and Oct. 13 for non city residents. Open to children ages 6-12, the program helps young athletes build skills, confidence, and teamwork.
Looking ahead, the program’s future home will be the Greer Sports & Events Center, scheduled to open in 2027. With a dedicated wrestling space, the new facility will reduce waitlists and allow more children to participate in the program.

Engagement, education, and empowerment are key parts of the team’s strategy to make code enforcement a more positive, collaborative effort.
The team is hosting a 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟵 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟲 𝗽.𝗺. 𝘁𝗼 𝟴 𝗽.𝗺. 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀. The goal is to pull back the curtain and show how code enforcement helps keep Greer safe, healthy, and clean.
We’ll have light refreshments at the event which is free to attend.
-A food, fun, and family-filled weekend at City Park,
-Students and a local nursery team up to bring a new pollinator garden to Greer Golf,
