Spring is here, and with it comes Spring Cleaning Day in Greer.
This annual event is a great opportunity to get rid of things you shouldn’t just toss in your trash can. You must receive City of Greer trash services to participate.
We’re partnering with North Ward Environmental Services, Shred With Us LLC, and the Greer Police Department to collect left-over prescription drugs, documents, cleaners, fluorescent bulbs, paint, and more. Starting Saturday, the Convenience Center will begin accepting e-waste, household batteries, oil, and antifreeze again. No car or large batteries will be accepted at this time.
Drop off your spring cleaning items this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
For more information, check out our Convenience Center page: https://www.cityofgreersc.gov/o/greersc/page/ps-convenience-center

Greenville County Schools honored the Greer Fire Department for giving high school students the opportunity to get real-world work experience.
At the district’s Business Partner Appreciation event at the CTE Innovation Center at Roper Mountain, district leaders recognized the Greer Fire Department as Bonds Career Center’s Business Partner of the Year.
Deputy Fire Chief Josh Holzheimer accepted the award. Holzheimer was instrumental in establishing a work-based learning partnership with Bonds several years ago. Selected students earn co-op placements where they get to work alongside professional firefighters and first responders. By the way, four former co-op students became full-time employees at the Greer Fire Department.

Improving the safety and accessibility of the city’s sidewalks…
The Public Services team recently replaced a 104-foot section of sidewalk on Duke Street where a utility installation had created a tripping hazard. On Hubert and South Miller, the team repaired a 74-foot section of sidewalk and added a new ADA mat.

Greer Night at the Greenville Drive is a home run for community pride.
On Thursday, May 1, the Drive will take on the Asheville Tourists at Fluor Field. Throughout the baseball game, the City of Greer and the people who make it so special will step into the spotlight.
The Greer Middle School choir will sing the national anthem, a city employee will throw out the first pitch, and Greer’s own celebrity chef will make an appearance – and that’s just a sample of what’s in the lineup.
Hope to see you at the ballpark to celebrate Greer on May 1!

An outdoor amenity at one of Greer’s community centers is back open just in time for warm weather activities.
Contractors tore down the aging deck at Needmore Recreation Center on Canteen Avenue and put up a new structure. The deck is available for a variety of community uses, but it’s the site of a lot of activities for kids ages 6 through 12 during Camp Greer over the summer months.

Recognizing the generational impact of a well-known family business: Greer Mayor Rick Danner presented a Key to the City to Terry and Debbie Dobson at Tuesday’s Council meeting.
Dobson’s Gifts and General Hardware has had a presence in the City of Greer since 1945. The Dobsons have decided to retire and close their store on Wade Hampton Boulevard.
In presenting the Key to the City, the mayor said the store’s closing marks the end of an era in Greer. The Dobsons thanked the community and said they couldn’t have done it without the support of their customers.

All City of Greer fields are closed tonight (3/10) due to the weather.

Trash collection delay: Meridian Waste experienced mechanical issues while running Tuesday's route. Crews will pick up in Chartwell, Bent Creek I, Freeman Farm, Manor at Abner Creek, and Donahue Hill on Wednesday (today).

The weather is going to be beautiful for the next couple of days which is a great pre-spring opportunity to spend some time outside at one of Greer’s 21 parks.
As you’re making your plans, please note: One of our popular playgrounds will be closed for repairs starting tomorrow morning.
The ground surface on the big kids’ playground (for ages 5-12) at Kids Planet is damaged. Crews will close the playground from Wednesday morning until lunchtime on Thursday to fix the damage. We’ll let you know if the repairs take longer than expected.
